The Blast Box is an explosive Crate and a container item. It first appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and has since appeared in every Super Smash Bros. game. When broken, the Blast Box explodes and deals 30% damage to all nearby fighters. However, the box explodes instantly when hit by a fire-based move, but this harms the user of the attack as well if they are close enough.

There is a Blast Box trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and there is another with a shared appearance in both Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Each game has specific criteria for unlocking its Blast Box trophy:

  • In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it is obtained by clearing Level 2 of Target Smash! with all characters.
  • In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, it is obtained by scoring 100,000 or more points in Target Blast.
  • In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, it is obtained by clearing the Wrecking Mario event and unlocking Duck Hunt.

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, if the box is broken with a reflecting move such as Ness's bat from his side Smash Attack, the user is unaffected by the explosion. When picked up and thrown, it flies for a very short distance and it deals around 10-20% damage depending on the direction thrown and the power used. The box has a chemical warning sign on it signaling easily ignitable substances.

Blast Box SSBB Trophy Blast Box.png Wii SSBB graphic.png Super Smash Bros. Brawl An explosive-filled box that will detonate when the box is broken. The box can be smashed with normal attacks and will also catch fire and blow up if it's exposed to any flame. Unlike ordinary crates, blast boxes do not change their appearance from stage to stage. There's one fundamental rule when dealing with these items: be out of range when they blow.

- Flag of USA.png A highly flammable box packed full of gunpowder. The player who last threw the box will get credit for any KOs it causes. Setting off the box will result in a massive explosion, and you've only yourself to blame if you blow yourself up. It says DANGER right on the front.
Flag of Europe.png A dangerous box packed full of exceedingly flammable gunpowder. Fire and strong attacks will set it off, and the explosion will be massive, so keep your distance! By the way, any points for the KOs caused by the blast go to the person who last threw the box. If no one threw the box, nobody gets the points!
