Gray Fox's artwork for Super Smash Bros. Brawl
|First appearance||Metal Gear (1987)|
Gray Fox (adopted name: Frank Jaeger) is a semi-recurring character within the Metal Gear series. Formerly an operative for the United States Army special forces unit FOXHOUND, Gray Fox was subjected to gene experimentation, which resulted in him being placed inside an exoskeleton, though he also experienced outbursts of extreme pain before becoming a mercenary. Although he fought against Solid Snake and Big Boss several times, he secretly helped them before his death during the Shadow Moses Incident in 2005. Gray Fox's first Super Smash Bros. appearance is in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, in which he is featured as an Assist Trophy.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Gray Fox is an unlockable Assist Trophy, and can be unlocked by unlocking Solid Snake himself. He uses his "Cyborg Ninja" appearance as seen in Metal Gear Solid and its remake. When summoned, Gray Fox runs and jumps across the screen toward other fighters, slashing them multiple times with his katana. He can deflect projectiles, and is unique among Assist Trophies in that if he falls off, he returns back to the stage.
There is a trophy of Gray Fox that can be unlocked by clearing Target Smash! Level 5 with all characters.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
After being absent from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Gray Fox returns as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, retaining his role and appearance from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Gray Fox also appears as a spirit.
