Samus Aran is the main protagonist of the Metroid franchise and an intergalactic bounty hunter. She is a playable character in every Super Smash Bros. title. She wears a heavy power suit but falls at a slow speed, giving her "floaty" jumps and aerial movement like in the side-scrolling Metroid games. Samus's moveset is designed around extensive use of her projectiles and other weapons, along with a number of hand-to-hand moves and short-range cannon blasts. Several of her moves make use of her arm cannon, while her special moves are all based on the equipment that she obtains in the Metroid series.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Zero Suit Samus is featured as Samus's alternate form for whenever she loses her power suit. Since Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Zero Suit Samus has been featured as a separate fighter, so Samus's power suit was made indestructible. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Dark Samus was introduced as an echo fighter of Samus.

Samus's grab move is similar to Link's Hookshot except it involves her using the Grapple Beam. She can also use it as a tether recovery to pull herself up to the edge of a platform.

Image Name Description
Standard: Charge Shot The Charge Shot is an attack in which Samus charges up a blast in her arm cannon which, when fully charged, starts to glow, allowing her to fire a large, powerful blast at her opponents. Even while her arm cannon is charging, Samus can shoot out a blast prematurely, although the blast itself is smaller and inflicts less damage.
Side: Missile There are two types of missiles, regular and homing ones. Regular missiles quickly shoot in a single direction. Homing missiles deal less damage than regular missiles, although they have the benefit of locking on to their opponent in whichever direction they have been fired.
Up: Screw Attack When executed, Samus quickly somersaults into the air while being surrounded by an electrical field that continuously damages any opponents caught within. The Screw Attack is often used as a recovery move.
Down: Bomb When used, Samus curls up into her Morph Ball form and drops a bomb from above that detonates after a few seconds or when it hits an item or opponent. If Samus is caught in the explosion, she is sent back into the air, once again in Morph Ball form.
Final Smash: Zero Laser Samus shoots a very powerful laser that covers a large portion of the stage. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the power of the attack causes Samus to lose her suit, turning her into Zero Suit Samus, although this does not happen in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as Zero Suit Samus was made a separate fighter.
